serving the Chicago-style hot
dog, 100 percent pure beef
Vienna, is Hot Dawg and
More on Grand River, owned
by Larry and Mimi Friedman
. . . scheduled to open another
one soon in the northwest
area.
Gildy's will be a seven-day-
a-week operation . . . Monday- E,
10:30 a.m. to 8
p.m.; Friday and Saturday,
10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sun-
day, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The former locale of Ruby
D's, with its 3,000 square feet,
will have seats for 75 in the
self-serve restaurant . . . plus
a room for supervised kiddie
parties.
DON'T LET the name fool
you . . . Sure the A & W on
Northwestern and 14 has root
beer . . . that's what the com-
pany was founded upon .. .
But this one also has ham-
burgers unlike any other fast
food operation . . . 100 percent
beef from Feldbros, who sup-
plies all the meat.
And the former location of
Jan Drake's, Afternoon
Delight and Le Peep now also
has a full salad bar . . . plus
being open for lunch and din-
ner seven days a week, 10
a.m. to 10 p.m., with ham-
burgers, coneys, regular and
foot-long Vienna hotdogs,
grilled chicken sandwiches,
frozen yogurt with toppings,
etc.
Customers come to the
counter or salad bar and take
their orders to the table .. .
Also unlike most fast food
operations, this A & W busses
its own tables . . . not making
the customers do the work .. .
And coffee is continually
refilled by a waitperson walk-
- ing around.
Open April 21, owner Jim
Kanaras and some of his staff
tiled the floor and did most of
the interior construction
work.
The ice cream style tables
are still there, but a Wurlitzer
juke box is in a corner wafting
songs folks recognize.
A & W Restaurant on
Northwestern and 14 Mile
might possibly be the best of
them all to occupy this loca-
tion. ❑
