Okemos is defending league-
meet champion in track.
At 5-feet-5, Wolfe's normal
weight is 140 pounds, 15
more than his mat weight. "I
can get up to that (140) in a
day and a half," he said, in-
dicating the tremendous
self-discipline needed to
keep his weight down. And
that precludes going out for
a burger and fries with
friends after practice, like
athletes in other sports do.
"I hate losing. I get a taste
of something, I want to see
how far I can go without los-
ing. I got into wrestling be-
cause I didn't lose as much
in it as in other sports, like
basketball."
"The most important
thing," Wolfe believes, "is
not letting up on the
pressure, making a goal and
going for it.
"The hard part, when
you're finally achieving it, is
not to cross that fine line of
over-confidence and become
cocky. I hope that I haven't.
When I see other guys who
have, I feel bad, I want to
cry.

academics; wrestling is just
another part of things" —
the Wolfe-Man is still com-
petitive. "I want it all; I
want to be an NCAA
champ."
In school, he carries a 3.4
grade-point average and
scored 1250 on his SAT.
Besides sports, he enjoys
writing poetry, acting and
watching David Letterman.
"I'm naturally nocturnal,"
Wolfe said.
In addition to school, Wolfe
has been a teacher's aide at
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek Sunday School in East
Lansing for the past two
years and has served as so-
cial action chairman of the
Greater Lansing Temple
Youth. He is planning to
visit Israel this summer.
But regardless of where
Rustin goes, there'll be a
Wolfe in Okemos' wrestling
future: brother Kyle, 15 and
a freshman, also lettered
this season at 125. And
sisters Lauren, 12, and
Kami, 9, also compete in
wrestling. Girls are allowed
to compete for berths on the
boys' teams. ❑
