Midrasha-College of Jewish
Studies, is sponsoring a lec-
ture by Zvi Gitelman on mak-
lunch will be served at noon
and the lecture will begin at
12:30 p.m. at the United
Hebrew Schools building.
Other lectures will be held
May 10 with Rabbi Daniel
Polish of Temple Beth El
speaking on "Reform
Judaism — Changes and
Challenge" and June 14 with
Rabbi Norman Roman of
Temple Kol Ami speaking on
"Jewish Communities Behind
the Iron Curtain: Crisis or
Opportunity."

Zvi Gitelman

fessor of Political Science and
Judaic Studies at the Univer-
sity of Michigan.
Gitelman will explore
Jewish values, institutions
and practices which have
their roots in Eastern Europe
and how these have con-
tributed to Jewish life and
have been altered in America.
The lecture will be at

Lunch And Learn
Set On April 19
The Michigan Board of Rab-
bis, B'nai B'rith Council of
Metropolitan Detroit, Jewish
Community Council and the
Midrasha-College of Jewish
Rabbi Ernst J. Conrad
Studies will present its Lunch
and Learn Series April 19.
Rabbi Ernst J.Conrad of
Temple Kol Ami will speak on
"Can You Dig It? Archaeology
and the Bible." A kosher

students have recently receiv-
ed honors.
In March, Josh Reinicke,
son of Sally and John
Reinicke, and Michael
Ginsberg, son of Fred and
Joyce Ginsberg, received the
Ner Tamid Award, a scouting
merit honor given to scouts
who have completed a pro-
gram of Jewish study and
participation in Jewish
rituals.
On April 1, Ilyse Jacobs,
daughter of Larry and Susan
Jacobs, Amy Simon, daughter
of Fredrick and Evelyn
Simon, and Nicole Goldman,
daughter of Louis and Faye
Goldman, received the Youth
Award from the League of
Jewish Women's Organiza-
tions for their participation in
temple activities. Amy Simon
was also given an individual
special recognition award.
Temple Emanu-El
To Offer Courses
Beginning April 23, Temple
Emanu-El will offer four
courses in its Academy for
Adults — Yeshivat Kallah. At
7 p.m. Rabbi Lane Steinger
will teach a course called
"People of the Book — 1990"
which will survey books of
Jewish interest, both fiction
and non-fiction. Cantor Nor-
man Rose will offer the course
"Jewish Music — Yes and No"
which will examine Jewish
music. At 8 p.m. Rabbi David
Feder will examine the
changes in Eastern European
Jewry in the class "Vilna
from the Gaon to Gorbachev:
Two Hundred Years of
Change in Eastern European
Jewish Life." To register, call

course in beginning Hebrew
will be offered through
the National Jewish Out-
