Department for an
interview. After receiving
notification of his
appointment, he received
a phone call from
President Bush.

MARCH OF DIMES

Over 130 of Detroit's top
business leaders walked
the 1990 March of Dimes
"golden mile," beginning
at the River Palace Inn
and ending with a
celebration lunch at the
Rattlesnake Club. The
walk raised $25,000 for
the March of Dimes
campaign for healthier
babies. The top golden
miler fundraiser was
Marianne Perakis,
president of the
Competitive Edge in Troy.
She was awarded a gold
"dime" stick pin
surrounded by diamonds
designed by Link
Wachler and donated by
David Wachler and Sons.
Some other golden milers
included: Florine Mark,
Sondra Berlin and
Marilyn Habsburg, all
executives of Weight
Watchers.

AKIVA DINNER

The home of Rosie and
Mark Schlussel was the
patron gathering spot in
advance of the May 6
Akiva dinner at
Congregation Beth Achim
honoring Joanne Zuroff
with the Woman of Valor
award. Headmaster Rabbi
Zev Shimansky and
Executive Director Marc
Volk spoke to 40 patrons
and showed a movie about
Akiva. Some of the

Maimonides donor event
was recently held at the
Southfield Sheraton with
a fashion show by Saks
Fifth Avenue. Fashion
designer Oleg Cassini
made a personal
appearance to launch his
new designer perfume
called Cassini. Some of

Topper, Lenore Katz,

DESIGN TOUR

The sisterhood of
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek recently toured the
Michigan Design Center
in Troy. The featured
speaker was interior
designer Laura
Kaminsky. Some of the

President Anita Millman,
Elaine Sharon, Debbie
Balkin, Linda Gold,
Sandy Schwartz and
Rusty Rosman.

PRE-PASSOVER PARTY

Toby Schlussel's seventh
grade class at
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek had a pre-Passover
celebration for the lower
elementary school
children. Admission to the
party was a donation of
food to Yad Ezra. The
carnival atmosphere
included shaving balloons,
learning booths and
eating matzah without
hands. Lauren Cohen,
Rachel Schiller, Bob
Beresh, Danny Kukes,
Danny Fayne and
Jessica Lipton were the
organizers of this fun
