Eight Women
Return to Calw

JEWELERS

Bonn (JTA) — Eight Jewish
women used as slave laborers
in the final months of World
War II returned to the scene
of their ordeal recently as
guests of a group of Germans
who refuse to suppress the
past.
The town of Calw, in
southern Germany's Black
Forest, was the site of a con-
centration camp that provid-
ed slave labor to a nearby fac-
tory, which assembled air-
craft parts for the Luftwaffe.
Local residents, calling
themselves "From Auschwitz
to Calw," spent several years
documenting the camp's
history and trying to track
down survivors.
The result was invitations
to the eight former inmates,
most of them originally from
Hungary but now living in
the United States, France,
Israel and other countries.

Why fight the crowds at the mall, when you can enjoy
Sunday's leisurely pace and get your holiday shopping done,
too? That's why Gornbein's invites you to Brunch & Browse.

One Protests
Kohl's Message

Bonn (JTA) — Only one
member of the Bundestag
spoke out against Chancellor
Helmut Kohl's proposal for
the reunification of Germany.
Forceful objections were
raised by Jutta Oesterle-
Schwerin of the small opposi-
tion Green Party, who accus-
ed Kohl of planning to incor-
porate East Germany into a
new "reich."
Oesterle-Schwerin happens
to be Jewish, but that is con-
sidered more coincidental
than relevant to her views.
Kohn, in a major policy ad-
dress to the Bundestag, West
Germany's parliament, spoke
of developing "confederative
structures" between both
German states, "with the
goal of federation."

Greek Mission
Goes To Israel

Athens (JTA) — Greece
recently sent an unofficial
goodwill mission to Israel
which includes two members
of the newly elected Parlia-
ment, academicians, former
ambassadors, mayors and
other dignitaries.
One objective of the mission
is to help change the unflat-
tering image of Israel held by
the Greek public through the
mass media.
These opinion leaders will
try to show "that Israel is not
the black sheep of the Middle
East, that it is advanced in
medicine and technology, and
not just warlike."
