Dr. Gilbert J. Galens

Dr. Gilbert J. Galens, a
rheumotologist, died Nov. 28.
He was 56.
Dr. Galens, a resident of
Birmingham, was born and
raised in Detroit. He was a
Phi Beta Kappa graduate of
Wayne State University and
a 1957 graduate of Wayne
State University school of
medicine. He was captain in
the United States Navy
Medical Corps., chief of
rheumotology at William
Beaumont Hospital in Royal
Oak and at St. Joseph Mercy
Hospital in Pontiac.
He was a past president of
the Michigan Rheumotism
Society and an assistant pro-
fessor at the Wayne State
University school of medicine.
He was also a member of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek.
He leaves his wife, Jane;
sons, David, Stephen and
Daniel; a daughter, Judy; his
parents, Harry and Grace of
Southfield; brothers and
sister-in-law, Sheldon of
Wheeling, Ill., and Dr. Gary
and Barbara of Farmington
Hills.

Joseph Zitomer

Joseph Zitomer, a storm
and door manufacturer and
chairman of the board of
Feather Lite Manufacturing
Co., died Dec. 4. He was 87.
Mr. Zitomer was a resident
of Bloomfield Hills. He was
former owner of United
Brands and was also a
member of Temple Beth El.
He leaves his wife, Reva;
daughters and son-in-law,
Beatrice Berman of Hun-
tington Woods and Evelyn
and John Cole of Huntington
Woods; brothers and sisters-
in-law, Irving and Willa of
Hot Springs, Ark., and Abe
and Ruth; a sister, Jean
Beerbohm; and four grand-
children.

Bertha Sloan

Bertha Sloan, who died
Nov. 29, had a long record of
Zionist activism. She started
as a teen, when she organiz-
ed the Young Judea youth
movement in Detroit.
For more than 30 years, she
had a variety of roles in
Detroit Hadassah and
organized the North Park
group.
She also was active with the
Jewish National Fund. Mrs.

Sloan emigrated to New
Jersey from Russia as Bertha
Slomovitz. She settled here in
1925 when she married Allen
Sloan.
She is survived by a
daughter, Helen Kanfer; a
son, Arthur; a brother, Philip
Slomovitz; three sisters, Anna
Pritz, Fay Sills and Bluma
Brown; and six grand-
children.

George S. Jackson

George S. Jackson, a phar-
macist and former owner of
Seven Drugs, died Dec. 5. He
was 88.
Mr. Jackson was a resident
of Southfield. He was born in
Poland, and lived more than
77 years in Detroit.
He was a member of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek,
Perfection Lodge of the
Masons and the Moslem
Shrine Club.
He leaves a daughter and
son-in-law, Helene and
Herbert Aronsson; five grand-
children and two great-grand-
children.

Harry Miller

Harry "Doc" Miller, retired
vice-president and national
sales manager of Wolverine
Aluminum Products, died
Nov. 29. He was 82.
Mr. Miller, a resident of
Southfield, was born in
Boston. He retired from the
company in 1970. He was a
member of Adat Shalom
Synagogue, Crescent Shrine
Club and Morgenthau Lodge
of B'nai B'rith.
He leaves his wife, Helen; a
son and daughter-in-law, Dr.
Newell and Myrna of Ann Ar-
bor; a daughter and son-in-
law, Susan and Harvey Kutin-
sky of Farmington Hills;
sisters Eva Kravitz and Rose
Drooker, both of Boston; a
brother and sister-in-law,
Charles and Ruth of Miami;
eight grandchildren and one
great-grandson.

Henry Schore

Henry Schore, a wholesale
tobacco and candy distributor,
died Dec. 3. He was a resident
of Southfield. Mr. Schore was
a member of Cong. B'nai
David and its men's club,
B'nai B'rith, the Mantle Club
and the National Association
of Tobacco Distributors.
He leaves his wife, Sandy;
sons and daughter-in-law, Dr.
Sheldon and Karen of W.
Bloomfield, Dr. Donald of En-
cinitas, Calif., and Dr. Robert
of Seattle, Wash.; sister,
Sophie Sobitzky of Chicago;
and three grandchildren.

During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will observe the yahrtzeits of the following departed friends, with
the traditional memorial prayers, recitation of kaddish and studying of mis hnayos.
