are missing

Kari Altus

Kari Altus, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Altus,
twinned her bat mitzvah at
Congregation Beth Shalom
with Katerina Goldfarb,
daughter of Yuri Lev and
Olga Goldfarb of Moscow,
and David Goldfarb.
Olga's father, David
Goldfarb, was in poor health
and had been refused per-
mission to emigrate three
times before U.S. in-
dustrialist Armand Hammer
secured his release in 1986.
Her brother, Alex,
emigrated from the Soviet
Union in 1975.
For some time, Olga was
not able to apply for an exit
visa because her former
husband refused to give her
an affidavit. He continually
harasses Olga both at home
and work.
In the summer of 1987,
Olga and her family applied
for permission to emigrate
with an American invita-
tion. Several months later,
Olga's case was put on a list
of exceptions and she was
told to apply for the visa
even though she did not
have the affidavit from her
former husband. Yet in
April 1988, Olga was again
refused permission to leave.

David Simonovic,
Michael Schonberg

Michael Schonberg, son of
Ila and Leslie Schonberg,
and David Simonovic, son of
Natalie and Frank
Simonovic, twinned their
b'nai mitzvah at Adat
Shalom Synagogue with
Zalman Masandilov, son of
Agnessa and Boris Masan-
dilov of Kislovodsk in the
Soviet Union.
Boris Masandilov and his
family first applied for per-
mission to emigrate in Oc-
tober 1975. They were refus-
ed for unknown reasons.

David Rosemberg, son of
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel
Rosemberg, was bar mitzvah
at Congregation Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses.
Lauren Elson, daughter
of Rochelle and William
Elson, was bat mitzvah at
Temple Israel.
Jason Mathog, son of
Deena and Dr. Robert
Mathog, was bar mitzvah at
Temple Kol Ami.
