dairy trays are in order to
break the fast on Yom Kippur
evening . . . However, places
like Vineyard's Delicatessen
& Cafe on Northwestern
Highway are giving people
choices now.
Vineyard's seems to lead
the way with three tray selec-
tions . . . Mediterannean, the
conventional dairy made by
Iry Greenberg, and salad.
Its Mediterranean tray is
quite interesting and features
many items found on dairy
trays but interspersed with
Mideastern delicacies which
have become big favorites .. .
mainly among the diet and
health conscious.
Fatoush . . . with its
seedless English cucumbers,
vitamin-packed skin, fresh
tomatoes, sliced bermuda
onion, chopped parsley, light
vinegar and herbs . . . Baba
Ganoush . . . baked fresh egg-
plant bought each morning at
Eastern Market, fresh lemon
juice, tahini and garlic .. .
Hummos (seems like every-
body spells it differently) .. .
with Vineyard's cooking its
own garbanzo beans, fresh
lemon juice, tahini and garlic
. Vegetable falafel .. .
Vineyard's garbanzo beans,
chopped parsley, garlic, old
world spices . . . Beef falafel
. . . cracked wheat, chopped
parsley, fresh lean beef
ground at Vineyard's, garlic,
tomatoes, peppers and onions.
All the food is freshly made
at Vineyard's . . . a big plus
for the Mediterranean tray.
The desserts combination
that comes with them has
chocolate marble halva, fresh
mandelbread made at
Vineyard's, some with pecans
and some with Swiss
chocolate pecans, homemade
chocolate chip cookies,
homemade fudge brownies
and homemade baklava.
The traditional dairy tray is
definitely here to stay . . .
Many people wouldn't give a
second thought to making a
change . . . But there are
those whose wandering
tastebuds and adventurous
ways of life will opt for the
change . . . Either as one or a
second choice.
Whatever the thinking may
be, it's quite a different
revelation seeing three tray
selections to break the Yom
Kippur fast . . . Vineyard's
Delicatessen & Cafe may
have hit upon something.

GOOD WAITPERSON

Dept. . . . Jose Puente at
Ristorante di Modesta in
Market Place on North-

western Highway . . . Very ef-
ficient and pleasant . . . Robin
Smith with the sweet smile
and much courtesy at Ram's
Horn of Southfield, 12 Mile
and Northwestern.
THINK BUDDY'S Pizza
will give any away this year?
. . . Sign in kitchen at North-
western and Middlebelt site
tells employees about free
small pizza when the Detroit
Lions score 42 points . . . and
half off any pizza when the
team tallys 22.
OVER 11,000 people at-
tended last spring's three-day
first Oakland County Home
Show . . . With 138 booths set
up in the carpeted Southfield
Civic Center Pavilion.
It'll be at the same place
this weekend (today, tomor-
row and Sunday) on Ever-
green and Civic Center Drive
. . . Admission is $4, with
seniors and children under 12
free . . . This year, 150 booths
will exhibit home improve-
ment ideas, services and new
products.
PERCY KAPLAN tells of
the sign in a restaurant win-
dow . . . "Eat here and you'll
never eat anyplace else
again?'
IF NORM'S Oyster Bar on
Franklin Road could smile, it
would be beaming from pillar
to post . . . Norm's took first
place in the general business
category with Community
Pride Award by City of
Southfield and Southfield
Chamber of Commerce . . .
Art Moran Pontiac was se-
cond and Comerica Bank on
Southfield Road, third . . .
Award is given for outstan-
ding efforts to beautify pro-
perty on which the business
stands.
DAN DUNSKY, 25 year-
old son of Harriet and Bob
Dunsky, is the efficient night
manager at Shield's Pizza on
Telegraph . . . He has been
there a year and majored in
hotel and restaurant manage-
ment at Arizona State.
VIDEO CRITIQUE . . . by
Michael Dembs . . . Coming
To America . . . "Proof
positive that Eddie Murphy
can do no wrong at the box of-
fice. This time he's the prince
of some faraway country who
journeys to America to find a
wife. Along with Arsenio Hall
he creates some truly funny
characters. But how much of
this is due to the makeup ef-
fects? The rest of the movie is
so-so, certainly not Murphy's
best effort but a welcome
relief from Beverly Hills Cop
