of the customers by name.
"Do you sometimes wonder
why a restaurant changes
hands three or four times
before it succeeds? Hugo's on
Northwestern and 12 Mile
didn't last long. Hugo was a
gracious host who greeted the
ladies with the old-world
charm of kissing their hands,
sang in baritone on Thursday
opera nights and did the cook-
ing in his spare time.
"When Hugo left, Joe
Brunetti took over,
redecorated the restaurant
from stem to stern and
specialized in Italian seafood.
But Brunetti's also folded.
Maybe Hugo and Brunetti
couldn't hack it because of
conflicts with owners and in-
vestors in the eating spot, all
professional men, not
restaurateurs. Needless to
say, Excalibur, which opened
after Brunetti made his exit,
is still making it big.
"King's Arms on Southfield
and 10 Mile seemed to be do-
ing okay. Business was brisk
for lunch and dinner and
showers at $3 a plate were
popular. When the restaurant
closed, it became
Christopher's and then the
Landing. The Landing menu
featured dishes named after
spaceships and planets and
that was the theme of the
decor. A disco was an added
attraction downstairs.
However, the Landing has
gone into outer space.
"The fourth time around,
the restaurant was called
Sultan's Table, featuring Mid-
Eatern dishes which might
have been too unusual and
exotic for the average
customer's taste. Sultan's
Table took off on a flying
carpet, but as since landed
and remains as Dimitri's of
Southfield, serving wonderful
Greek cuisine.

LOST AND FOUND
DEPT.... The somebody or
folks missing a friendly, well
behaved and trained "Benji"
type dog will be happy to
know the pooch is safe . . . It
was found in the Farmington
Hills area by chef Debbie
Nelson of Roman Terrace .. .
A loveable gray and white
sweetie, it is being cared for
by Debbie's sister, Kathleen
Fritz . . . If you are the owner
or owners, or know them, call
Kathleen, 682-2699, or Deb-
bie at Roman Terrace,
8514094 . . . and turn tears of
sadness into smiles of joy.
BACK TO THE Mystery
Muncher . . . I found a 1940s
simulated wood menu,
shaped like a "T" from the
restaurant name, Tip's, which
featured thick steaks from 95
cents to $1.10 and thin pan-
cakes for 20 cents to a
quarter.
