son of Abram and Khana
Malaev.
Ryan's attempts to contact
Gennady and his extended
family in Israel have been
unsuccessful.
Guests at the bar mitzvah
included Ryan's sisters, Julie

parents Dora Tracht of Boyn-
ton Beach, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs.

Ethan Stettner, son of
Susan and Dr. Daniel Stett-
ner of Huntington Woods,
twinned his bar mitzvah at
Temple Emanu-El with
Marina Vaisman, daughter of
Zinaida and Yakov Vaisman
of Kishinev in the Soviet
Union.
Yakov Vaisman's brother,
Boris, immigrated in October
1979 to Israel. The following
year, Yakov Vaisman and his
brothers, Piotr and Anatoly,
also applied for permission to
leave the Soviet Union.
Two months after filing for
an exit visa, Piotr and Yakov
Vaisman were arrested. They
were charged with "trying to
smuggle a car out of the
USSR to Israel." Yakov
Vaisman received an eight-
year sentence; his brother
was ordered to a labor camp
for six years.
Anatoly Vaisman and his
family have since been'allow-
ed to emigrate from the
Soviet Union, but Piotr and
Yakov Vaisman remain in
labor camps.
