Ryan Tracht
Ryan David Tracht, son of
Dr. Arnold and Janice Tracht,
twinned his bar mitzvah dur-
ing a Havdallah service at
Temple Israel with Gennady
Malaev of Tadzhik in the
Soviet Union. Gennady is the
son of Abram and Khana
Malaev.
Ryan's attempts to contact
Gennady and his extended
family in Israel have been
unsuccessful.
Guests at the bar mitzvah
included Ryan's sisters, Julie
and Sari, and his grand-
parents Dora Tracht of Boyn-
ton Beach, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs.
Alvin Solomon. of Delray
Beach, Fla.; and Mt and Mrs.
Walter Bennett of Union
Lake.

Ethan Stettner, son of
Susan and Dr. Daniel Stett-
ner of Huntington Woods,
twinned his bar mitzvah at
Temple Emanu-El with
Marina Vaisman, daughter of
Zinaida and Yakov Vaisman
of Kishinev in the Soviet
Union.
Yakov Vaisman's brother,
Boris, immigrated in October
1979 to Israel. The following
year, Yakov Vaisman and his
brothers, Piotr and Anatoly,
also applied for permission to
leave the Soviet Union.
Two months after filing for
an exit visa, Piotr and Yakov
Vaisman were arrested. They
were charged with "trying to
smuggle a car out of the
USSR to Israel." Yakov
Vaisman received an eight-
year sentence; his brother
was ordered to a labor camp
for six years.
Anatoly Vaisman and his
family have since been'allow-
ed to emigrate from the
Soviet Union, but Piotr and
Yakov Vaisman remain in
labor camps.

mitzvah at Adat Shalom
Synagogue with Svetlana
Shpilman of Kishinev in
Moldavia.
Svetlana and her parents,
Emmanuil and Violetta, ap-
plied for permission to
emigrate in 1979. They were
refused in 1980 with no
reason given. Since then, Em-
manuil has lost his job.
Allison and Erin have writ-
ten letters to Svetlana but
have not received an answer.
