FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1989

ALMOST 800 pounds is
the latest update on white
fish count at Hoa Kow Inn,
Nine Mile west of Coolidge in
Oak Park.
Out-of-towners who come
here for visits make it a must
to visit Hoa Kow . . . They just
can't believe a Chinese
restaurant seemingly sells
more white fish than it does
Oriental food . . . It probably
doesn't, but you wouldn't
believe it by looking around
and seeing so many people
eating white fish.
Gene and Dan Woo prepare
the white fish in many ways
*. broiled, poached, steamed
C
. antonese-style with black
bean sauce, Szechuan and the
very popular favorite of so
many, Hong-Kong style.
Folks who call ahead also
can get their egg rolls
without meat . . . The veggie
egg rolls by Hoa Kow are
standout items.
Hoa Kow is still a fine
Chinese restaurant . . . and
big on Oriental dishes a lot of
places don't have . . . both for
dining in or carry-out.
But the phenomenon is its
white fish ... and how much
Gene and Pan serve every
day.
Fish all over the place .. .
on tables galore . . . and not
the slightest tinge of odor.
WORLD'S BEST-
KNOWN bartender, Ted
Lange, also known as Isaac
Washington on "The Love
Boat" TV series, plays the
spirited chauffeur in Driving
Miss Daisy, the 1988 Pulitzer
prize comedy opening Birm-
ingham Theatre's 1989-1990
season Sept. 19 thru Oct. 22.
Alfred Uhry's lively and
endearing play about a sharp-
tongued, elderly Southern
widow and her chauffeur is
based on the memory of
Uhry's grandmother, while
he was growing up in Atlanta.
DOUG JACOBS and his
Red Garter Band played their
19th Annual Muscular Dys-
trophy Telethon on WJBK-
TV 2 Labor Day Weekend
from 7:30 p.m. Sunday to 6:30
p.m. Monday.
Doug and the Red Garter
Band appear regularly on the
Saturday and Sunday brun-
ches aboard Star of Detroit
. . . plus playing a number of
private parties throughout
the year.
20 YEAR OLD Oak Park
Civic Chorus is looking for
new members . . . Meetings
start 7:30 p.m. Monday night
at the Oak Park High School
on Oak Park Boulevard with
informal auditions . * . The
non-profit group does Broad-
way, ethnic and pop . . .
everything from Mozart to
Ellington. Call Debra
