son, Seymour Lipkin, Neal
Stulberg and Albert Kahn.
Rollin recalls Kottler's
studio as "a very inspiring en-
vironment. His expectations
were very high. This probably
led to so many of his students
going on to successful music
careers."
Audiences are still reveling
in Kottler's talent. Reviews of
his February performance
with the Lyric Chamber
Ensemble remarked on his
ability to evoke childlike
ecstasy from the audience
and said he performance was
on an artistic level rarely
heard from most of today's
pianists.
Kottler will play again dur-
ing the 10th anniversary
celebration of the Lyric
Chamber Ensemble in
January. He also has upcom-
ing concert dates in Windsor
and in Jackson.
At 90 what is left for Kot-
tler? "I have always wanted to
write a musical. Can you im-
agine at my age having a
musical produced?" he asked.
Kottler's mother lived to
106, and he's planning to live
to 107. And he's already writ-
ten "two knockout love
songs" for his musical.
