three-year term, Zlotoff was
nominated to the university's
American Board of Overseers
as well as to its board of
trustees, from which position
he co-ordinated Bar-Ilan's na-
tional public relations effort.
Soon thereafter he was ap-
pointed a vice president of the
American Board of Overseers.
Along with Rochelle Lieber-
man, ZLotoff is now involved
in planning next year's spring
Midwest mission for Bar-Ilan.
JESNA Probes
Teacher Lack
New York — An important
"first" took place recently
when JESNA, the Jewish
Education Service of North
America, held a satellite
teleconference on Jewish
education. Transmitted via
the CJF satellite Network,
more than 300 people from 16
communities participated in
a program focusing on the
shortage of personnel in
Jewish education.
JESNA board member
Judith Stern Peck of New
York said the goal of the con-
ference was not to bemoan
the current shortage, but "to
focus on what we can do to
develop the human resources
for Jewish education that will
make a difference for Jewish
life in the decades ahead."
Jonathan Woocher,
JESNA's executive vice presi-
dent, presented an overview
of the current situation and
some of its key elements.
"The need for intensified
recruitment efforts is evident,
but we must not neglect those
who are already serving.
There are thousands of people
working in our schools and
other settings who are poten-
tially fine educators."
JESNA, in its work with
communities throughout
North America, has
discovered that there are, in
fact, dozens of successfully
tested programs in place
aiding in recruitment, train-
ing and retention of
professionals.
