Alfred Zweig
Alfred Zweig, retired chief
structural engineer for Albert
Kahn Associates, Inc., Ar-
chitects and Engineers, died
June 23 in Laguna Halls,
Calif. He was 86.
A former Birmingham resi-
dent, Mr. Zweig was born in
Austria and educated at the
Saxonian Institute of
Thchnology in Germany. He
held a Master of Science

BELLA S. THEMAL, 84, of
Alfred Zweig
degree in civil engineering
and joined the Kahn firm in
1938. Although he retired in
1971, he remained a consul-
tant with the firm for several
more years.
Prior to coming to the
United States in 1938, he
worked for a government firm
in Russia organized by Kahn.
Mr. Zweig was a fellow of the
American Society of Civil
Engineers, a member of the
Michigan Society of Profe-
sional Engineers, the
Michigan Association of Pro-
fessions and the American
Concrete Institute. He also !LI
was a member of the Struc-
tural Engineers' Association -
of Southern California, an
honor bestowed on few out-of-
state engineers.
Mr. Zweig was president of
the Michigan Chapter of the
American Concrete Institute
and on its board of directors.
He was responsible for the
structural design of many
