Adat Shalom
B'not Mitzvah

Adat Shalom will hold a
b'not mitzvah ceremony 9
a.m. today for five adult
members of the congregation.
Those becoming b'not mitz-
vah are Barbara Friedman,
Sharon Horowitz, Linda
Rosenbaum, Nancy Schwart-
zenfeld and Susan Shlom.
The class will twin the
celebration with Eleonora
Degtyarova of the Soviet
Union.
Also participating in the
b'not mitzvah service are nine
adult members of the con-
gregation who will read the
Book of Ruth. They are Nan-
cy Handelman, Betsy
Winkelman, Shelly Newman,
Sarah Waldshan, Judy Leder,
Ella Moskowitz, Linda
O'Desky, Shula Fleischer and
Sylvia Starkman.
Each woman marking her
bat mitzvah observance has
studied weekly for the past
year with Rabbis Efry Spectre
and Elliot Pachter and with
Cantor Larry Vieder.
The community is invited.

Adoption
Seminar

A seminar on private adop-
tion will be held 7 p.m.
Wednesday at Temple Beth
El, presented by the Child
and Parent Services Support
Group.
Kansas attorney Allan
Hazlett, who has arranged
private adoptions for many
Michigan couples, will lead
the panel discussion on the
positive aspects of these
adoptions.
Also on the program will be
a woman who released a child
for adoption 15 years ago and
is the newly adoptive mother
of an infant. A Michigan cou-
ple who has recently adopted
through Kansas will complete
the panel.

Installs Officers

Richard Berg will be in-
stalled president of Congrega-
tion Beth Shalom during
Kabbalat Shabbat services 6
p.m. today. A dinner honoring
the new board will follow.

Cantor Wetzler
To Be Honored

Cantor Bruce Wetzler of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
in East Lansing will be
honored for his 30 years of
service to the congregation
and the community at a din-
ner Sunday.
Cantor Wetzler has taught
hundreds of students their
bar and bat mitzvah lessons
through the years and still
teaches mid-week classes. He
is director of the adult and
junior congregation choirs.
He also is active in communi-
ty services and has perform-
ed for various church and
music groups throughout the
agea. He is chaplain for the
Lansing Council of Veterans
organizations. He received a
certificate of chazzan from the
Cantor's Assembly of
America and has an honorary
fellow degree from the Can-
tor's Institute.

Are Announced

Temple Beth El Brother-
hood announces the following
slate of officers for the
1989-1990 year: president, Dr.
Burt Fogelman; first vice
president, Eric Canvasser; se-
cond vice president, Marshall
Hersh; Treasurer, Bruce
Plisner; assistant treasurer,
Barry Lepler; secretary, Earl
Remer; assistant secretary,
Allen Glass.
