JPI B'nai Mitzvah
Planned For Saturday

The Jewish Parents In-
stitute will hold its an-
nual b'nai mitzvah ceremony
11 a.m. Saturday at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center. The b'nai
mitzvah will be Nina Aron-
son, Mara Bruton, Marla
Falick, Adam Gusman, Sam
Hirschman, Lauren Kaplan,
Stefan Pitcoff, Ryan Sills and
Jeremy Walker. They will
twin their b'nai mitzvah with
Ekaterina Grinberg and Isay
Abaev of the Soviet Union.
The ceremony was planned
and written by the students
and their parents. The nine
students have completed at
least 30 hours of community
service and have written
research papers on subjects of
their choice. Ibpics covered
were Aronson, "The Shtetl";
Bruton, "The Immigrant

Story"; Falick, "Chasidic and
Conservtive Jews"; Gusman,
"Albert Einstein";
Hirschman, "Jewish Sym-
bols"; Kaplan, "Zionism"; Pit-
coff, "Sigmund Freud"; Sills,
"The Jewish State of Israel";
and Walker, "Chanukah-
Freedom and Food."

Bar Mitzvah

Benjamin Marshall Per-
mut, son of Linda and Steven
Permut of Huntington Woods,
twinned his bar mitzvah at
Temple Emanu-El with Elgu
Efremashvili of the Georgian
Republic in the Soviet Union.
Elgu is the son of Ister and
David Efremasvili. The fami-
ly applied for exit visas in
1972 but was refused with no
explanation.

Three For Achievements

The Institute of Human
Relations of the American
Jewish Committee will pay
tribute to filmmaker Sue
Marx; Lucius Theus, director
of civic affairs for Allied
Automotive Sector, Allied-
Signal, Inc.; and Dr. Judith
Laikin Elkin, DeRoy Visiting
Professor in the honors pro-
gram, University of Michigan
and research scientist,
Frankel Center for Judaic

Studies, at a dinner June 27
at the Westin Hotel.
In recognition of their ac-
complishments they will
receive the institute's
Distinguished Cultural
Achievement Award.
