An opportunity to meet
Jewish singles from across
the United States as well as
learn about Israel will be af-
forded Detroiters during the
United Jewish. Appeal's Na-
tional Singles Hatikvah Mis-
sion to Israel July 30-Aug. 9.
Some 250 singles — from
cities the size of Mobile, Ala.,
to San Diego and Baltimore
— are expected to participate,
according to Barbara Satin-
sky of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, the local sponsor.
"'Participants will have the
opportunity to meet people
from all over the country and
also Israelis of like age," said
Satinsky. "They not only see
the sites of interest, but also
meet people and gain an
understanding of the progress
and problems and how the
UJA dollars help in the
health and welfare of Israelis.
They see both the fun and
realities of the country."
The Detroit group will be
led by attorney Ricky Radner
and real estate developer
Ricky Blumenstein.
An information meeting for
singles is scheduled for 7:30
p.m. May 16 at the United
Hebrew Schools. In addition
to meeting with Radner and
Blumenstein — both of whom
have participated in past
singles tours — singles will
hear from Paula Borenstein,
a Holocaust survivor who is
public relations represen-
tative at the Joint Distribu-
tion Committee's Paris office.
The mission, for 1990 Allied
Jewish Campaign con-
tributors of $500 or more,
costs $2,200 and includes
round-trip airfare, five-star
hotels, three meals daily,
porterage, touring and special
programming, Satinsky said.
Singles are divided into
groups on buses and "they
really develop a family rela-
tionship," Satinsky said.
"They make lifelong friends?'
She said even romance can
bloom on the mission. Two
years ago, a Detroiter met a
Philadelphian and they later
wed, she said.
Some 24 Detroiters went on
last year's mission, which
drew 150 nationally.
