Fine Arts
Contest Opens

The Birmingham Bloom-
field Art Association an-
nounces the eighth annual
Michigan Fine Arts Competi-
tion, made possible with
grant support from the
Michigan Council for the
Arts. Prize awards total
$3,250 from the Textron Corp.
The show represents the
works of artists throughout
Michigan in various media
such as painting, weaving,
sculpture, photography and
ceramics.
Patterson Sims, associate
director of the Seattle Art
Museum, will conduct a
workshop and discussion of
the works selected for the
show and also his role as a
curator in the art world, on
April 1 at 10 a.m. at the
BBAA.
This is open to the public at
a fee.
The public, artists and
guests are also invited to
an opening reception of the
show at the BBAA on April 8
at 2 p.m. with the awards
ceremony taking place at
3:30 p.m.
The exhibition is open from
April 9 through May 13,
Monday-Saturday from 9:30
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lebenbom Work
Is Performed

Elaine Lebenbom's work for
orchestra, Reflections on a
Rainbow, will be performed
7:30 p.m. April 9 by the War-
ren Symphony at the Warren
Woods Community Theater.
Lebenbom is a recent reci-
pient of an Individual Artist's
Grant awarded by the
Michigan Council for the
Arts. The one-year grant, her
first ever, will allow Leben-
bom to prepare her opera The

Witch, The Wise Man and the
Fool for production.
Lebenbom received bache-
lor's and master's degrees in
music composition from the
University of Michigan. She
has also written or composed
operas, sonnets, chamber
works, lullabyes, poems and
sound tracks.

Music Classes
Are Offered

Registration has begun for
the classical music school
sponsored by Southfield
Cultural Arts. The spring pro-
gram, conducted by Nikolai
Lemberg for children and
adults, offers private as well
as group instruction.
