Linda Beth Konop,
daughter of Susan and Ken-
neth Konop of Huntington
Woods, will twin the obser-
vance of her bat mitzvah
celebration with Ekaterina
Grinberg, daughter of Stella
and Leonid Grinberg of
Ukrainian SSR, today at 8:15
p.m. at Temple Emanu-El.
The Grinberg Family ap-
plied for a visa in 1978 to live
in Israel, where Mrs.
Grinberg's father settled.
When they applied, Grinberg,
an engineer, was promptly
dismissed from his job and, as
a consequence, the family
lived in reduced cir-
cumstances for eight months,
all the time waiting for their
visas. In the end their ap-
plication was rejected, and
they were refused without
any obvious reason.
Women _Mark
B'not Mitzvah
Temple Kol Ami's third
adult b'not mitzvah ceremony
will take place during Shab-
bat eve services March 24 at
7:30 p.m.
The b'not mitzvah are:
Geraldine Lester, Susan
Robin, Shirley Rosenberg,
Theresa Rosenberg, Susan
Trigger and Helen Wexler.
These six women have
studied for nearly two years
in preparation for this occa-
sion. They have learned how
to read and translate prayer
Hebrew and to recite a
passage from the weekly
Torah portion, which will be
read from the unvocalized
Torah Scroll. Each will also
read a passage or portion
from the Book of Esther, since
the event will culminate the
celebration of the Purim
festival.
Dr. Irving Friedman, can-
torial soloist, will provide the
musical portions. Rabbis Nor-
man T. Roman and Ernst J.
Conrad will officiate.

Kimberly Jacobs, daughter
of Lanny and Susan Jacobs,
will twin her bat mitzvah
celebration with Viktoria
Kats on Saturday at Temple
Beth El. Viktoria is the
daughter of Anatoly and In-
na Kats of Kiev, USSR.
The Kats family first ap-
plied to emigrate in 1978 and
was refused. Anantoly Kats
works as an engineer.
Viktoria, who will turn 13
this year, will be denied her
right to be a bat mitzvah
because it is forbidden by
Soviet law.
Kimberly has written
several letters to Viktoria but
has not received a response.
She hopes to call Russia in
the near future.
