The meaning of tzedakah
will be brought home to
several hundred fifth grade
Jewish schoolchildren on
March 5 at Temple Beth El.
Scheduled to begin at 9:30
a.m. and last throughout the
morning, the fourth annual
Tzedakah Fair will be co-
sponsored by Beth El, the
Jewish Welfare Federation
Women's Division and Jewish
Experiences for Families
(J.E.F.F.). Fifth graders, their
parents and teachers from
Jewish schools throughout
the Detroit area are invited.
The Tzedakah Fair is
designed to teach youth and
their parents about tzedakah
(charity) and its importance
to their lives. Poet, author
and nationally known "mitz-
vah maven' Danny Siegel will
be guest speaker.
A "Passport to Enter the
World of Our Jewish Com-
munity" will be issued to
each participant at the begin-
ning of the day. A tzedakah

Aleynu, the Partnership for
Jewish Adult Education, will
present the second talk in a
six-part series entitled,
"Medical Issues Through
Jewish Eyes," at the Detroit
Medical Center on Tuesday.
The class will be in the
Harper-Grace Professional
Building, Suite 411 at noon.
Refreshments will be served,
and there is a charge.
Rabbi Shmuel Irons, head of
the Kollel Institute of Detroit,
will speak on "Quality of Life,
Terminal Illness and
Euthanasia."
Future topics will deal with
cosmetic surgery, treating
AIDS patients and abortion.
The classes are recorded,
and the tapes will be
available at a later date. For

Hebrew Class
Is Offered

Aleynu, the Partnership for
Jewish Adult Education, and
Machon IIIbrah, will combine
for a Hebrew literacy program
beginning the week of March
6.
A Hebrew crash course will
be offered at locations
throughout metropolitan De-
troit. The courses are free of
charge. For information, call

Many Jewish organizations
will participate in the fair,
and each student willhave an
opportunity to give tzedakah
to the participating organiza-
tion of his or her choice.
At the conclusion of the
morning, students, parents
and teachers will leave with
potential projects to assist
them in learning the mean-
ing of tzedakah.

Mah Jongg
Class Offered

The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jewish Com-
munity Center announces
Lillian Meyers will conduct a
series of Mah Jongg classes
for beginners and reviewers
on Thursdays, March 2, 9, 16,
and 23, at 9:30 a.m. in room
239 of the Maple/Drake
building.
There is a charge for both
members and non-members of
the Center. Mah Jongg cards
will be available for purchase.
Limited space is available.
Advance registration is re-
