Yes, we have our differences.

As Orthodox Jews, members of the National Council of Young
Israel, representing over 200 synagogues in North America and
over 50 in Israel, we are hurt and dismayed by the challenges to
immutable Halachic principles which have held us together as a
people for thousands of years.

At the same time, we understand the pain of those who mis-
takenly believe that Orthodoxy has denied their authenticity as
Jews.

As Jews, we are united by our common heritage and our common
destiny.

A Jew is a Jew regardless of his affilia-
tion—Orthodox, Conservative, Reform,
or non-believer—all are, and ever will
remain, Jews, to be loved and cherished.

Let us now join together in creating a
united front, able to withstand the assaults
which threaten our very survival.

Detroit Bond Sales Show
Increase Over Last Year

The Metro Detroit State of
Israel Bond organization,
with an 8 percent increase in
Bond sales over 1987, again
joined the ranks of major U.S.
city top producers as the
world Israel Bond organiza-
tion realized its best year
with total sales of
$631,078,000 in 1988.
In 1987, Detroit realized
$9,732,250 in Israel Bond
purchases. The next year,
$10,554,670 in Israel Bonds
were purchased, a net gain of
$822,420 in Bond sales.
The world sales figure, was
an all-time record for a single
year in the 38-year-history of
the world campaign and a $27
million increase over 1987.
The 1988 record sales of
Israel Bond securities
brought to $3.24 billion the
securities which have been
sold under the leadership of
Yehudah Halevy, president
and chief executive officer of
the Bond Organization, who
completed his term of office
on Dec. 31. They also brought
the total of Israel Bonds sold
in the United States and
other countries, since the in-
ception of the campaign in
1951, to $9.3 billion.
Douglas Schubot, im-

mediate past general chair-
man of the Detroit Bonds
campaign, said that the year-
end reports of all Metro
Detroit executive board
members reported across-the-
board increases.
Barbara Stollman, im-
mediate past chairman of the
Women's Division, reported
the division was responsible
for Bond sales totaling
$2,429,560, an 8 percent in-
crease over 1987.
Donald Wagner and
Lawrence Wolfe, immediate
past New Leadership co-
chairmen, indicated that the
division had its best year to
date, in terms of both
membership recruitment and
sales. The year's sales of more
than $676,000 showed a 50
percent increase over the
prior year.
Irving Laker and Ivan
Bloch, chairmen of the Prime
Minister's Club and Presi-
dent's Club, respectively,
stated that the combined
membership of the exclusive
honor societies rose by 9 per-
cent last year, with a total of
143 purchasers each' in-
vesting $25,000 to $100,000
or more in Israel's develop-
ment program.
