As Orthodox Jews, members of the National Council of Young Israel, representing over 200 synagogues in North America and over 50 in Israel, we are hurt and dismayed by the challenges to immutable Halachic principles which have held us together as a people for thousands of years. At the same time, we understand the pain of those who mis- takenly believe that Orthodoxy has denied their authenticity as Jews. As Jews, we are united by our common heritage and our common destiny. A Jew is a Jew regardless of his affilia- tion—Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, or non-believer—all are, and ever will remain, Jews, to be loved and cherished. Let us now join together in creating a united front, able to withstand the assaults which threaten our very survival.
