PHILOSOPHY: "My father imparted to me
his belief that the harder you work, the
more luck you have. You can direct the
luck you have. Another part is once you
get involved, you have to be fully
involved and make a full commitment.
When I approach something, I approach
it with the aspect of achieving success
and winning?'

BACKGROUND: Peter Levin grew up in
Chicago on the north side of town. He - 1
the only child of the late Idah Raskin
Levin and William Levin. The initial
"R" in his name stands for Raskin, his
mother's maiden name.
His mother was a creative and
talented dancer. At age 13, she opened
her own dance studio. As a young adult,
she was a Rockette dancer. In her later
years she directed musical shows for the
Jewish community.
His father became the head of the
household at an early age„ when Levin's
grandfather died. William Levin had to
forego plans of becoming a rabbi in
order to support the family. He
eventually went in to the retail
hardware business.
Peter Levin attended public school
in Chicago and was graduted from
Sullivan High School in 1960. " I was
always focused towards business," he
recalls. After gradauting from the
Thunderbird Graduate School of
International Management with a
M.B.A. degree, he began his career at
SKIL Corp., based in the Chicago area.
He often traveled to the Far East with
international assignments.
After three years, Levin went to
work for Warner Lambert in New Jersey
in brand management assignments in
the consumer package goods division.
When the company underwent
reorganization, Levin developed his own
personal marketing plan as to why the
company should keep him as an
employee. The plan was successful, since
he worked there for three years.
In 1972 he began his career at
General Motors in New York with the
overseas headquarters coordinating
product plans and marketing strategies.
"My real desire was to live overseas. I
felt that business could bring
interdependency among countries. I also
felt it was a way for a private citizen to
make some kind of meaningful contribu-
tion to worldwide society. And being
idealistic and young, I wanted to get
back into international?'
