He - 1 the only child of the late Idah Raskin Levin and William Levin. The initial "R" in his name stands for Raskin, his mother's maiden name. His mother was a creative and talented dancer. At age 13, she opened her own dance studio. As a young adult, she was a Rockette dancer. In her later years she directed musical shows for the Jewish community. He often traveled to the Far East with international assignments. After three years, Levin went to work for Warner Lambert in New Jersey in brand management assignments in the consumer package goods division. When the company underwent reorganization, Levin developed his own personal marketing plan as to why the company should keep him as an employee. The plan was successful, since he worked there for three years. In 1972 he began his career at General Motors in New York with the overseas headquarters coordinating product plans and marketing strategies. "My real desire was to live overseas.
