Difference

enough studies have been
done.
Like other experts, Dr.
Kinosian sees nothing wrong
with oat bran. He does recom-
mend, howei rr, that it be in-
cluded in a diet rich with
other soluble fibers. "Eat the
oat bran, but also eat apples,
grapefruits, beans, even
psylium (the generic name for
Metamucil). Don't rely on
just one food." ❑

Diet Tips

• Recapture that cherished
look of youth.
• Minor blemishes disappear
in as little as 1 week.
• No prescription necessary.

New Laser

Detroit — Harper Hospital
is pleased to announce that
the new "laser balloon" being
developed at Harper by J.
Richard Spears, M.D., has
received FDA approval for a
major international
cooperative heart trial.
The balloon angioplasty
procedure uses laser energy
and has shown great promise
in treating patients with nar-
rowed or blocked coronary
arteries in recent clinical
trials.
The initial results from
Harper Hospital were
presented to cardiologists
from around the world at the
Annual American Heart
Association meeting in
Washington, D.C., on Nov. 15.
Dr. J. Richard Spears, prin-
cipal investigaor in the
250-patient study, will ex-
pand his work to include
other investigators from Beth
Israel Hospital in Boston,
Emory University in Atlanta,
and St. Luke's Episcopal
Hospital/Texas Heart In-
stitute in Houston, in addi-
tion to sites in the United
Kingdom, Canada, Europe
