Zionist Leader Torczyner
Due Here For Lecture

Jacques Torczyner, honor-
ary president of the Zionist
Organization of America and
member of the executive of
the World Zionist Organiza-
tion, will be the guest speaker
at services at Ibmple Israel
on Dec. 16 at 8 p.m., it was an-
nounced by Rabbi M. Robert
Syme, president of Metro
Detroit ZOA and spiritual
leader of Thmple Israelarc-
zyner will discuss: "Israel and
the U.S. — After the Elec-
tions."
National President of the
ZOA for five consecutive
terms, 1965-1970, Ibrczyner
was one of the initiators of the
movement that brought Dr.
Abba Hillel Silver to the
leadership of the ZOA and the
chairmanship of the
American Section of the
Jewish Agency.
He was one of the 18 leaders
who met with David Ben-
Gurion to launch Friends of
the Haganah, which organiz-
ed the campaign in support of
the Jewish Defense Forces in
Palestine before it became the
Defense Forces of Israel.
From 1974 until 1977 he
was chairman of the

Jacques Torczyner

American Section of the
World Jewish Congress.
In 1979, he was named
chairman of the inter-
religious and community
relations department of the
WZO.
He is president of the World
Union of General Zionists,
and in 1982 was appointed by
the Secretary of State to serve
on the U.S. National Commis-
sion for UNESCO.
Tbrczyner's appearance is
co-sponsored by Temple Israel
and the Metro Detroit ZOA.
