Federation/Campaign Sab-
bath will focus on the Jewish
community and tzedakah and
the work of the Federation
and its Allied Jewish
Campaign.
The event is a prelude to
the Campaign's Super Sun-
day phonathon Dec. 11 at the
United Hebrew Schools.
Campaign chairman Jane
Sherman will speak at Dec. 2
services at Thmple Kol Ami.

Dr. Conrad Giles, who will
speak at Temple Israel; Ex-
ecutive Vice President Mar-
tin Kraar, who will speak at
Thmple Beth El; and Chair-
man of the executive commit-

Lecture Series
The Metropolitan Council
of Young Israel wil hold the
first of its monthly minyan-
breakfast-lecture series at 8
a.m. Dec. 4 at Young Israel of
Southfield.
The guest speaker will be
Rabbi Yosef Lange, Detroit's
only certified Hebrew scribe.
His topic will be "Being a
sofer — It's more than meets
the eye."
The series is free, and the
public is invited.

CJF Award
Rabbi David A. Nelson,
spiritual leader of Congrega-
tion Beth Shalom, received
the Community Rabbinical
Award from the Council of
Jewish Federations, Inc. Rab-
bi Nelson first won the award
in 1979.
Rabbi Nelson received the
award "in recognition of
Rabbi David Nelson
dedicated service to the com-
munity and his congrega-
tion."
He has been affiliated with
Congregation Beth Shalom
since 1972. He is the presi-
dent of the Michigan Board of
Rabbis, president of the Con-
servative Rabbis of Metro-
politan Detroit, chairman of
the Michigan Region of the
Rabbinical Assembly, chair-
man of the membership com-
mittee of the Rabbinical
Assembly, vice chairman of
the Detroit Area Council, Boy
Scouts of America Jewish
Relationship Committee.
