Intifada
Committee

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The inten-
sification of the intifada, the
Palestinian uprising in the
West Bank and Gaza Strip,
was high on the agenda of the
Palestine National Council
meeting in Algiers last week.
An intifada committee was
established during the ses-
sion to draft recommenda-
tions to escalate the uprising.
Maariv reported.
According to Maariv, a por-
tion of the draft submitted to
the PNC plenum said that
the PNC "has decided to pro-
vide all the ways and means
and to intensify the uprising
and ensure its continuation."
It will "assist the Palesti-
nian institutions and
organizations and strengthen
the popular committees and
cultural frameworks, includig
the shock groups and the
popular army in order to in-
crease their effectiveness''
the draft said.

Inflation Jump
Is Unexpected

ml Aviv (JTA) — The cost of
living index rose by 2.4 per-
cent in October, threatening
an inflation rate for 1988
higher than the predicted 16
percent.
The sharp hike announced
by the Central Bureau of
Statistics was attributed to
unexpectedly high prices for
fruit, vegetables and other
foodstuffs because of reduced
government subsidies, and
seasonal increases in the
price of housing and clothing.
