Jacob Aaron Kaufman, son
of Jerry and Jacqui Kaufman,
became a bar mitzvah
Thanksgiving Day. He con-
ducted Shachrit services and
delivered a D'var Torah on
Parshat Vayishlach at Bais
Chabad of Farmington Hills.
Rabbi Chaim Moshe Bergs-
tein officiated.
Also participating in the
services were Jacob's brother,
Johnny, and five of Jacob's
friends from Camp Ramah in
Canada.
Jacob is the great-grandson
of Rose Herman of Southfield
and of Hannah Kaufman of
Los Angeles. He is also the
grandson of Albert Kaufman
of Southfield and of Hortense
and Samuel Alper of Las
Vegas.
Joining Jacob to celebrate
this simcha were family and
friends from Los Angeles,
Washington, D.C., Boston,
Aspen, Cincinnati, Grand
Rapids, Flint, Ann Arbor,
Windsor and Toronto.
Jacob's bar mitzvah invita-
tion, which was designed and
created for him by his mother,
has been added to the
American Jewish Archives in
Cincinnati by Dr. Stanley
Chyet.
Jacob is an eighth grade
student at Cranbrook
Kingswood School where he
plays the trumpet in both the
jazz band and the advanced
band. He also studies piano.

Rachel Beth Hertzberg,
daughter of Rosalyn and
Mark Hertzberg of West
Bloomfield, will celebrate her
bat mitzvah, Saturday at
Temple Israel.
During the Havdalah ser-
vice, Rachel will twin her
ceremony with Elvira
Fishman of the Soviet Union.
Elvira and her parents,
Anatol and Mila, live in Kiev
and have been denied exit
visas. Rachel hasn't received
a response to the letters she
has written to Elvira.
