Direnfeld Scholarship
Award Winner Named

Peter May has been award-
ed the fourth annual
Catherine Direnfeld Memo-
rial Scholarship. May is a
senior at Wayne State
University, majoring in public
relations and in world peace
and conflict studies.
May has been active with
the Hillel Foundation at WSU
since he came to the campus.
He is also the youth director
and United Synagogue Youth
adviser at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
The scholarship was found-
ed by Morry Direnfeld in
memory of his wife Catherine,
who was active in B'nai
B'rith for many years.
Direnfeld was involved in the
founding of the Hillel Foun-
dation at WSU in 1945.
He is an honorary life-time
member of the board of gover-

nors of the B'nai B'rith Hillel
Foundations of Metropolitan
Detroit, (the successor
organization to the Board of
Governors of the B'nai B'rith
Hillel Foundation at Wayne
State University) which
oversees the operations of
Hillel at WSU, Oakland
University, University of
Detroit and several other in-
stitutions of higher education
in the greater Detroit area.
The Catherine Direnfeld
Memorial Scholarship is
awarded annually to a college
or university student at WSU
or at OU who is a member of
the Hillel Foundation, on the
basis of service to the Jewish
community, need and
academic strength. For ap-

Catherine Direnfeld Scholar-
