Teens To Share
B'nai Mitzvah

Scott Barnett, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ronald Barnett, and
David Migdal, son of Dr. and
Mrs. Stephen Migdal, will
share their b'nai mitzvah
with a Soviet Jewish child in
absentia at Temple Israel on
Nov. 11.
The Soviet youngster, Yusif
Manashirov, is the son of Milo
and Yangil Manashirov.
Though Yusif is 13 this year,
he is denied the right to
celebrate his bar mitzvah
because of the Soviet law for-
bidding anyone under the age
of 16 to take part in a
religious ceremony.
The Manashirovs are
refuseniks in Derbent. They
have been trying to emigrate
to Israel for 13 years, in order
to be reunited with
Manashirovs' parents there.
Their exit visas have been
denied on grounds that
Manashirov once served in
the army, over 13 years ago.
Both David and Scott have
written letters to their Rus-
sian "twin," and their
families have written Yusif's
grandparents in Israel to in-
form them of the "twinning"
ceremony. The boys are
awaiting a response.

Berenholz Mivins
Bat Mitzvah

Leah Berenholz, daughter
of Annette and Joseph
Berenholz, will twin the
observance of her bat mitzvah
celebration at Adat Shalom
Synagogue on Saturday with
liana Yagudaeva, daughter of
Shulamit and Mark
Yagudaev of Tashkent, USSR.
The Yagudaevs are refuseniks
and have been denied permis-
sion to emigrate to Israel.
They have been harassed by
the KGB, dismissed from
their place of employment
and live in fear of arrest.
Leah has written to Ilana
Yadugaeva and she will at-
tempt to reach the family by
phone.

Talmer Twins
Bar Mitzvah

Janine Melissa Talmer,
daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Samuel Talmer, will twin her
bat mitzvah with Riva
Baazova on Saturday at Tem-
ple Beth El.
Riva lives with her parents,
Rafael and Zina Baazova, in
the city of Tbilisi in the
Georgian Republic of the
USSR. The family had ap-
plied for a visa in 1978 and
still awaits permission to
emigrate.
