The fourth annual Morris
and Sarah Friedman Lecture
on Yiddish language and
culture will take place Nov. 6
at 2 p.m. The lecture will be
in English, with some Yid-
dish readings.
Itche Goldberg, adjunct pro-
fessor of Yiddish language
and literature at Queens Col-
lege of the City University of
New York, will be the
featured speaker. His topic
will be "Itzik Manger, the Sad
Golden Peacock of Yiddish
Poetry!'
Prof. Goldberg is editor of
the magazine Yiddishe
Kultur and director of the Ser-
vice Bureau for Jewish
Education. He is an author,
translator, poet and essayist
and has received many
literary awards including the
Israeli Manger Prize in 1986.
His latest work is Essayen (in
Yiddish) — a collection of 37
essays on Yiddish literature
from Mendele to Isaac
Bashevis Singer.

The Holocaust Memorial
Center in West Bloomfield, is
seeking volunteers to train as
docents to guide tours, and to
help educate visitors about
the Holocaust.
The fall training session
meeting will be held at 7 p.m.
on Monday in the conference
room of the HMC. Both day
and eveiing training sessions
will be available during the
eight-week training period.
