Ex-Shaliach To Address
Histadrut Brunch Sunday

Histadrut of Metro Detroit
will hold its opening meeting
of the 1988-1989 season at a
brunch on Sunday at 11 a.m.
in the Lieberman Hall of the
Labor Zionist Institute, 25900
Greenfield, 205E, Oak Park.
The program, which will in-
clude installation of new of-
ficers by outgoing chairman
Isadore Shrodeck, will feature
Bennie Schwarz as gftest
speaker.
Shaliach to the Jewish com-
munity of Detroit from
1984 1987, Schwarz has
returned to the area to pursue
his studies in the gerontology
architecture doctoral program
at the University of

-

Michigan.
Born in Czechoslovakia,
Schwarz emigrated to Israel
with his family at age 3 in
1949. There they settled in
Kibbutz Afikim of which he is
still a member. After serving
in the army for three years
and participating in the Six-
Day War, he was graduated
from the Technion in 1975
with a degree in architecture

and town planning. For the
next nine years he served as
architect for the planning
department of the kibbutz
movement.
After returning from
Detroit to Israel in 1987, he
became the chief architect for
the kibbutz movement.
Proceeds from this year's
campaign will be used to
build the telecommunications
system at Kibbutz Grofit
which numbers among its
population, seven Detroiters,
and which has military and
agricultural significance.
The project will be named
after the late Morris L.
Lieberman.
The new officers are: Chair-
man, Alex Blumenberg; Vice
Chairmen, Ralph Levy, Nor-
man Naimark, Evelyn
Noveck, Belle Glenner-
Schwarz; Treasurer, Abram
Medow; Recording Secretary,
Dena G. Greenberg.
The public is invited. Call
Histadrut, 967-4720, for
reservations to the com-
plimentary brunch.
