Senesh Movie
Well Received

Montreal (JTA) — Hanna's
War, Menachem Golan's film
about Hanna Senesh, a young
Hungarian Jew executed by
the Nazis, received a warm
reception at this year's Mon-
treal International Film
Festival.
Hanna's War, one of 25 films
entered in competition was
screen three times last week;
most films are shown only
twice.
The two-and-a-half-hour
film depicts the life and death
by execution of Senesh, the
Budapest native who
emigrated to at 17, and who
at 22 was sent on a mission by
the British Royal Air Force to
help British airmen escape
occupied Europe.
Dutch actress Maruschka
Detmers plays Hanna, Ameri-
can actress Ellen Burstyn is
her mother. British actors
Donald Pleasance, Anthony
Andrews and David Warner
also star in the film.
Golan, whose Cannon
Films is based in Los
Angeles, said that the Israeli
media gave the film high
marks. The film, said Golan,
is "90 percent true to fact"
although he refrained from
depicting Senesh without her
teeth after the torture and
beatings she received in a
Budapest prison. Golan said
he felt the audiences would
have recoiled from such vivid
portrayal.
The Montreal festival
featured two other Israeli
films: Stalin's Children, by
Nadav Levitan, and On My
Own, produced by Tamir
Taul.

Ronald Reagan
Will Attend
Holocaust Event

Washington (JTA) — The
U.S. Department of the In-
terior recently approved the
design specifications for the
Holocaust Museum which is
scheduled to open in 1990.
Sources at the U.S. Holo-
caust Memorial Council said
it is possible that President
Reagan will attend the cor-
nerstone-laying ceremony
Oct. 5. The president at-
tended the October 1985
groundbreaking ceremony.
Michael Berenbaum, the
museum's acting project
manager said construction
will begin within two weeks.
William Lowenberg, vice
chairman of the council said
that $60 million of the
museum's $140 million fund-
raising goal has been raised
so far.
