B'nei Akiva
Hosts Regional
B'nei Akiva will begin its
1988-1989 year of programm-
ing with a "Shabbat B'nei
Akiva" scheduled for Labor
Day weekend. Local B'nei
Akiva members of the
Chevreyah Bet Chapter, will
be joined by representatives
from Cleveland and Chicago
for the regional convention
which will be held at the
Young Israel of Southfield.
Topics to be discussed in-
clude "The Youth Leader as a
Role Model" and "Zionism in
the Jewish-American Socie-
ty." Guest speaker at the con-
vention will be Yitzchak
Feigenbaum, national direc-
tor of B'nei Akiva.
Members of the Chevreyah
Zach Chapter, youth in
grades six-eight, are invited
to an Oneg Shabbat on Satur-
day at 5 p.m. in the home of
Debra Chopp, 28415 Brooks
Ln., Southfield. Tzvi Weiss,
educational director of B'nei
Akiva, will address the group.
Programming for the junior
high group will continue
Saturday at a movie night
scheduled for 9:30 p.m. in the
home of the Appels in Oak
Park.
Kvutzot Shabbat Groups
will begin Saturday afternoon
for youngsters in grades
kindergarten-six. Groups
meet at Young Israel of
Southfield each week at 5
p.m. for an hour of games,
stories and activities planned
around the Shabbat theme.
Refreshments will be served.
Walking groups for the
youngsters can be arranged
by contacting the group
leaders, Gabi Albert,
352-5937; and Nancy Ber-
man, 352-2020.
A special lecture will be
given by Prof. Morris Pollard
on Sunday at Young Israel of
Southfield at 8 p.m. Prof.
Pollard will address the topic
of "The Case of Jonathon
Pollard and Its Effect on
American Jewry." B'nei
Akiva high school members
are invited to attend. The pro-
gram is co-sponsored by
Mizrachi Hapoel Hamizrichi
(Religious Zionists of
America).
