been in Morocco together with
the Berbers before the begin-

I have searched for many
words to describe the over-

awe, sorrow, excitement, re-
lief, nostalgia, and others.
There is a bit of truth in each

SWIM PARTY AND PICNIC

Meet Rabbi Arnold Sleutelberg

Jerusalem — The Shulchan
Aruch, the classic code of
Jewish Law written by Rabbi
Joseph Caro in the 16th cen-
tury, is one of the important
sources for determining the
law in the State of Israel, said
a legal expert on Jewish law
at a conference held at the
Hebrew University of
Jerusalem.
Professor Nachum Rakover,
deputy attorney general for
matters of Jewish law in the
Ministry of Justice, spoke on
the influence of the Shuichan
Aruch upon the legislation
and rulings of the state.
In emphasizing the in-
fluence of the Shuichan
Aruch on Israeli law, Rakover
said that the 1980 basic law
on justice, passed by the
Knesset, marked the turning
point when Israeli law in ef-
fect severed its link with
English law and became more
closely tied with Jewish law.
Thday, under the law, when
there is no obvious decision
that is mandated by the cir-
cumstances, the courts must
arrive at their decisions bas-
ed on the Jewish tradition,
said Rakover. In doing so, he
said, they often find their
sources in the Shulchan
Aruch.

Israeli Pilots
Die In Crash

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Two
veteran Israel air force pilots
were killed over the Judean
Desert-Dead Sea area Mon-
day, when their F-15 fighter
jets collided on a routine
training exercise, according to
a spokesman for the Israel
Defense Force.
Lts. Col. Ram Koller, 36, of
Tel AViv and Major Ehud
Polk, 33, of Kibbutz
Merhavya, were buried Tues-
day in their hometown
cemeteries.
The planes were flying
\I
) wing-to-wing at very close
quarters when the two wing
tips struck each other.
Eyewitnesses said the aircraft
plummeted to the ground in
a large fireball, killing both
pilots.
