In the more immediate
future, Dorfman may move in-
to the Pioneer's starting rota-
tion next season. "I don't
know how we're gonna use
him next year," says
Chapoton. "It depends on if
we sign a couple of kids. But
he did a nice job for us. To
have a winning record on a
team that's 10 games below

last season, improving from

Chapoton, is "a key member
of our pitching staff, last year
and in the future."

scasting, either in front of or
behind the camera. On the
diamond, he is willing to fill
any role Chapoton puts him
in. But his goals for the next
three seasons include a star-
ting role. "I would like to be
the guy that they say, 'Jeff's
pitching, we've got a great
chance of winning today' .. .
I'd like to work myself into
the top two, top three starters.
And after my senior year I'd
like to acquire a nice record,
something to show for it."

A 10-year-old promise bet-
ween two brothers was kept
on June 19 when Keith and
Bruce Fishman successfully
completed tests to earn fourth
degree black belts in karate.
Stewart Schulman also earn-
ed a fourth degree black belt,
while Allan Hamer earned a
third degree belt.
Keith Fishman, along with
Hamer, is an instructor at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center's Karate
Academy. Fishman and his
brother "made a pact" ten
years ago "that we'd be
testing for our fourth degree
black together?'
The tests were conducted by
another fourth degree
"master!" "He put everybody
through a long, arduous test;'
says Fishman, "but it was a
lot of fun!'
Fishman adds that he did
not know what to expect on
his test. "The idea is . . . you
have to be prepared for
whatever is thrown at you.
We were all pretty well
prepared."
Fishman says that all four
"passed easily."
The three who earned
fourth degree belts
demonstrated a variety of
skills. "There were forms,"
recalls Fishman, "as would be
expected. There were one-step
and three-step (forms). There
was a lot of self-defense. At
one point he picked the
largest person he could find,
a black belt, gave him a club
and sat the person testing in
a chair. Then he had the per-
son with the club come at
him. And he had to stand and
defend himself.
"(It was) very interesting to
watch and a lot of fun to do,
also!"

There were also required
weapons demonstrations.
There are no steps above
the fourth degree level. "After
this point it's honorary," ex-
plains Fishman.
There were over 65 years of
martial arts experience bet-
ween the four who were
testing.
