HOW TO TRACK DOWN THE ELUSIVE REFUND

The following is an all to typical refunder's story
that is becoming more and more common: You sent
in for a refund, you checked and double checked
everything and it was all correct. The only problem
is the refund never arrived, and you really don't
know what to do.
Although most offers state, "allow eight weeks for
delivery I normally suggest that you allow twelve
weeks before getting nervous. I have had requests
from consumers that have been waiting for an of-
fer for up to 4 years, and that might be a mite long.
The general rule of thumb that manufacturers try
to follow is that all activity associated with a refund
be completed within six months of the offers expira-
tion date.
More and more consumers are cashing in on
refunds these days and this is creating delays in pro-
cessing. If the 12 weeks have elapsed and you are
still waiting, it is time to check into the matter. Do
not send a follow up letter to the Post Office Box that
the offer originally went to. This is usually a clear-
ing house and chances are the P.O. Box has been
closed. Send the inquiry to the company that made
the offer. Their address can be found on packages
of their products. Be sure to mark it: Attention Con-
sumer Affairs. You may want to call toll free infor-
mation at 1-800-555-1212 to see if they have a toll
tree number. You do not have to know where the
company is located to obtain this information.
