Teens To Have
Learn-A-Thon

Young Israel Teens Chapter
of the National Conference of
Synagogue Youth will hold its
third annual learn-a-thon on
Saturday at 11:30 p.m. at
Young Israel of Greenfield.
The program will feature
special classes given
throughout the night. Classes
are geared to accommodate
anyone regardless of previous
learning background. In addi-
tion, individual learning
partners are available
(chavrutot). Snacks will be of-
fered throughout the night.
Among those giving special
classes are Rabbi Mark Cohn,
regional director of Central
East NCSY; Rabbi Reuven
Drucker of Young Israel of
Greenfield; Rabbi Avi Shapiro
of Akiva Hebrew Day School;
Rabbi Moshe Englander of
Akiva Hebrew Day School;
and Ithamar Koenigsberg of
Young Israel of Greenfield.
Every Monday night at 7:30
p.m. YIT/NCSY holds learn-
ing and discussion groups at
Young Israel of Southfield.
The class is open to anyone in
the eighth through 12th
grades. There is no charge.
Applications are still being
accepted for the 20th annual
Central East Regional Con-
vention which will take place
May 27-30 at Camp Nahelu
in Ortonville, Mich. More
than 200 NCSY'ers are ex-
pected to attend from Detroit,
Cleveland, Pittsburg, Cincin-
nati, Columbus, Dayton, In-
dianapolis and Louisville.
The theme of the weekend
will be "Ma'alin B'kedusha —
Rising to the Challenge of the
'80s." Among the educational
staff will be Rabbi Elimelech
Goldberg of Young Israel of
Southfield; Rabbi Baruch
Lanner, national consultant
to NCSY; Rabbi Yossi
Abrams, dean of Mesivta
High School in Cleveland; as
well as representatives from
Yeshiva University in New
York, Touro College in New
York, Harvard University in
Boston, the University of
California in Los Angeles
(UCLA) and the University of
Michigan.
