Essay Contest
Focuses On Aged

Judith Ann Dresses

The Jewish Community
Center, Jewish Federation
Apartments, Inc. and the
Jewish Home for Aged will
sponsor a 500-word or less
essay contest on "My Favorite
Older Person." Essays should
describe a family member,
friend or acquaintance over
age 62 who is very special to
or has impacted on the life of
the author.
The contest is open to the
community. Entries will be
divided into four age groups
for judging; Children 5-8
years old and 9-12 years old,
Youth 13-16 years old and
Adults 18 and over. One prize,
a day at the Jewish Com-
munity Center for the
children and youth and a day
at the JCC Health Club for
the adult winner, will be
awarded to each group. En-
tries should be received by
May 20 and mailed to Essay
Contest, Jewish Federation
Apartments, Inc., 15100 W.
Thn Mile, Oak Park, 48237.
The agencies are holding
the contest as part of their
celebration of Older
Americans Month.

Cancer Coping
Program Due

Coping with cancer is the
focus of a free six-week educa-
tional program sponsored by
Harper Hospital, the
American Cancer Society and
the city, of Southfield's
Human Resources
Department.
Designed for cancer pa-
tients as well as their families
and friends, the series will be
presented six Wednesday
evenings from May 18 to June
22. The classes will be held at
6:30 p.m. in the Southfield
Public Library's Marcotte
Room.
Enrollment is limited. To
register in advance, contact
