Bat Mitzvah
Lesley Goldbaum, daughter
of Elaine Goldbaum and Alan
Goldbaum, will twin the
observance of her bat mitzvah
celebration 9 a.m. Saturday
at Adat Shalom Synagogue
with Sofya Gorokhov,
daughter of Asya and David
Gorokhov of Moscow, USSR.
Gorokhov is qualified as a
physicist and a mathemati-
cian, but since making ap-
plication for a visa in 1981, he
is unable to find work in his
field. The reason for refusal is
"secrecy?' An engineer, Mrs.
Gorokhov is also unable to
find professional
employment.
The Gorokhovs are reli-
gious Jews and speak English
and Hebrew.
Lesley has written to Sofya
and will attempt to reach the
Gorokhovs by phone.

Matt Kominars, son of
Allan and Lillian Kominars,
will twin his bar mitzvah
celebration with a refusenik
child in the Soviet Union who
is denied the opportunity to
practice his religion openly.
Alexzander Varvak of Kiev,
son of Mark and Nelly Var-
vak, will become bar mitzvah
by proxy, at the ceremony
which will take place on
Saturday at Cong. B'nai
Moshe.
Varvak is a scientist in ap-
plied mechanics. He applied
for a visa in 1980, but was
denied. once again he applied
for a visa; this time he was
able to leave the country. Now
he lives in Brooklyn.
The Varvaks got a divorce,
and Mrs. Varvak and Alex-
zander still live in Kiev.

Dmitri's parents, Gerzl, an
engineer, and Elisheva, a
teacher, have not been
allowed to work in their pro-
fession since applying for ex-
it visas in 1979. They manage
to gather a minyan for the
holidays, and have requested
books on the Jewish holidays
from their friends in Israel.
Gerzl speaks fluent Hebrew
and Yiddish, and his sons
know Hebrew as well.
