speak about his new book, A
Century of Ambivalence: The
Jews of Russia and the Soviet
Union, 1880 to the Present at
the Maple/Drake Jewish
Community Center on
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Gitelman has written many
books, including Jewish Na-
tionality and Soviet Politics,
Public Opinion in European
Socialist Systems and Becom-
ing Israelis: Political
Resocialization of Soviet and
American Immigrants, in ad-
dition to more than 50 ar-
ticles in scholarly journals on
Soviet and East European
politics and Israeli politics.
He has also been active in
the YIVO Institute, the
Memorial Foundation for
Jewish Culture, B'nai B'rith
Hillel Commission, among
others.
