Sanchez. This label has
revolutionized lingerie.
Although Fernando Sanchez
is a major part in the new
lingerie, there are other
important players in the field.
Another important designer in
lingerie is Josie Natori.
Josie Natori, 39, and Filipino-
born, began a lingerie collection
ten years ago. According to
Fortune magazine, 1986
revenues were over $12 million
dollars. Natori was an
accomplished pianist and vice
president of investment banking
at Merrill Lynch earning six
figures, when she decided to
plunge into a lingerie business.
Natori used the intricate
embroidery trademark of the
Philippines and manufactured
the items there. Natori refers to
her lingerie as a concept. In her
press kit she states, "Nobody
needs just another nightgown.
But every woman deserves a
psychological and actual place
of retreat — an environment
for her private moments and
leisure time that makes her feel
special and pampered."
In addition to a complete line
of homewear — nightgowns,
robes, lounging outfits — Natori
also has a fragrance collection,
consisting of parfum, body
lotions, soaps, and powders.
This goes hand in hand with the
Natori concept.
Local stores realize that
women are choosing luxurious
lingerie for themselves rather
than waiting to receive them as
gifts.
Randee's, located in the
Franklin Centre Savings
Building, sells sleepwear and
sportswear. "The ladies will pick
up an outfit and a nightgown,"
says owner Randee Newman.
Newman's inventory of mixing
sportswear and lingerie is similar
to the designers' philosophy of
