Memorial Academy
To Recall Holocaust

Detroit — Survivors of the
Nazi genocide — in coopera-
tion with Holocaust
Memorial Center, Jewish
Community Council, Greater
Detroit Interfaith Round
Table of the National Con-
ference of Christians and
Jews, the Ecumenical In-
stitute for Jewish-Christian
Studies and the Jewish Com-
munity Center will conduct
the annual Holocaust Memo-
rial Academy on April 10 at
1 p.m. at the Maple/Drake
Jewish Community Center.
Abraham A. Weberman is
president of Shaarit
Haplaytah, and Sonia
Popowski, chairman of the
academy.
A candlelighting ceremony
by the survivors of the con-
centration camps and ghettos,
accompanied by the children
of Holocaust survivors, will be
led by Mrs. Popowski. Cantor
Chaim Najman, Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, will chant
memorial prayers and rendi-
tions. He will be accompanied
by Rochelle Peterson.
Program participants in-
clude Leon Halpern, presi-
dent Holocaust Memorial
Center; Henry S. Dorfman,
chairman, executive commit-
tee, H.M.C.; Sidney
Freedland, president, Jewish
Center; Zelda Robinson,
chairman, Holocaust Sub-
committee, Jewish Communi-
ty Council; Robert A. Arcand,
director, Greater Detroit In-
terfaith Round Table; Dr. Ir-
vin J. Gastman, Junior Divi-
sion, Shaarit Haplaytah; Rev.
James R. Lyons, director,
Ecumenical Institute for
Jewish-Christian Studies;
Rosa Cheesler, officer
Children of Holocaust Sur-
vivors Association in
Michigan.
Helen Chorazyczewski, her
late husband Ignacy and son
Cezary Chorazyczewski, will
be cited as the Righteous
Among the Nations of the
World Award. Dr. John J.
Mames, chairman, Depart-
ment of Oral History and
Holocaust Studies, will pay
tribute to the righteous gen-
tiles and make the
presentation.
Miriam Ciesla, flute will
render memorial musical
selections and will be accom-
panied by Rochelle Peterson
at the piano. Shari (Ferber)
Kaufman will give a recita-
tion. Proclamation, resolu-
tions and messages from
President Ronald Reagan,
Gov. James Blanchard, from
senators, congressmen and

other dignitaries will be
acknowledged by Arthur
Weiss, Junior Division,
Shaarit Haplaytah.
Rabbi Charles H. Rosenz-
weig, director of the Holocaust
Memorial Center, will deliver
the memorial address. Milton
Klein, commander; Ruth
Weiss, president, Ladies Aux-
iliary and members of the
Jewish War Veterans of the
United States of America,
Department of Michigan, will
present the colors.
The academy will be con-
cluded at the Eternal Light,
Holocaust Memorial Center.
The community is invited. -

Hillel Dinner
Cites Schavers

Hillel Day School will pay
tribute to Mrs. Emma
Schaver and her late husband
Morris Schaver at this year's
dinner-dance.
Mrs. Schaver and the late
Morris Schaver were among
the founders of Hillel Day
School. They were pioneer
leaders in the Detroit Jewish
community. Mrs. Schaver con-
tinues to be involved with
many cultural and educa-
tional institutions in
Michigan and in Israel.
Among her affiliations are
Wayne State University,
Chabad House in Ann Arbor,
Jewish Home for the Aged,
the Lubavitch Foundation
and the board of governors of
Hebrew University.
Hillel's annual dinner-
dance will be held May 5 at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Cock-
tails will be at 6 p.m. followed
by dinner at 7.
Proceeds from the evening
go to Hillel Day School.
The community is invited.

Fashion Show
Set At Temple

rIbmple Israel Sisterhood
will hold a brunch and casual
fashion show on Monday at 10
a.m. at the temple.
Fashions will be modeled
tableside by sisterhood
models.
The program is under the
direction of Janie Roth, pro-
gram vice president.
Assisting her are special
entertainment chairmen
Paula Shapiro, Carole Miller
and Marlene Swarin. There is
a fee for brunch, and reserva-
tions are required. Call the
temple office for information,
