tice, not political vengeance"
Pollard wrote that, prior
to his sentencing, U.S. Pro-
secutor Joseph diGenova tra-
veled to Israel, offering to "go
easy" on the Pollards in ex-
change for names of Ameri-
can Jews assisting Israel out-
side of "approved" channels.
The Israelis, according
to Pollard "strenuously de-
nied the existence of what
amounted to a Jewish com-
munity-wide espionage con-
spiracy" in the United States.
DiGenova then "reported-
ly promised that he would go
ahead and 'make examples of
us' as a warning to all the
other American Jews work-
ing for [the Israelis] who had
not yet been exposed by his
investigation."
Pollard said the plea bar-
gaining arrangement which
he and Anne signed "clearly
stated that we would be
treated leniently in exchange
for our complete cooperation."
He charged that prosecu-
tors sought, during nine
months of interrogation, "a
way to implicate the Ameri-
can Jewish community."
"However, when the pic-
ture that emerged was at
variance with the one sought
by the U.S. prosecutor,
the government shamelessly
backed away from its plea
bargain commitment and
turned the subsequent sen-
tencing into a 'judicial
retaliation' for the rather ill-
timed promotion of Col.
Aviem Sella," one of Pollard's
Israeli "handlers."
Despite the disappoint-
ments of the past two years,
Dr. Pollard seems heartened
by the small, but growing,
vocal support his son and
daughter-in-law are re-
ceiving.
"If this hadn't happened to
Jay, if it was somebody else,
I don't know if I would have
done anything. I guess [Amer-
ican Jews] have to be hit over
the head to wake up."

Rabbis Agree

New York (JTA) — Leaders
of two U.S. rabbinic organiza-
tions recently agreed that
Israel should be willing to
trade territory for peace with
the Arab states.
Rabbi Binyamin Walfish,
executive director of the Rab-
binical Council of America
(Orthodox), said that he no
longer disagrees with the
Israeli Peace Now move-
ment's call for territorial com-
promise. He was referring to
a statement of support by
Rabbi Wolfe Kelman, ex-
ecutive director of the Rab-
binical Asembly
(Conservative).

_ a very special place.

ecause it provides the
services needed by the elderly
while preserving the environ-
mental characteristics of a
Herman Frankel Organization Residen-
tial Community.
There is complete separation between
the Full Service Convalescent Home on
the upper floor and the Supportive
Care Manor on the lower floor. The
building is on a hillside and both levels
have direct access to the extensively
landscaped grounds.

Rex Lanyi and Herman Frankel, the
developers, are particularly proud that
Windemere both functionally and
aesAllaetically provides a residential
environment that preserves dignity,
beauty, and maximum independence at
a time in life that its residents require
some medical and social support.

Words cannot describe the feelings
that created Windemere. You must see
it to appreciate what it offers. Please drop

in or call 661 1700 for an appointment.
