J.P.I. Marks
Purim Holiday

The Jewish Parents In-
stitute will hold a Purim
celebration at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center from 11 a.m.
until 3:30 p.m. on March 6.
The celebration will begin
in children's classrooms, as
the students exchange
shalach manot and prepare
for a costume parade, to be
held in DeRoy Theater.
At 11:35 a.m., students will
enjoy Purim entertainment
consisting of Purim-spiels,
songs, dances, a special news
broadcast prepared by J.P.I.
students depicting events as
they might have unfolded in
Persia at the time the Purim
story took place, and a special
Purim play based on a Chelm
folktale.
J.P.I. parents will then pro-
vide refreshments. At 12:45
p.m. J.P.I. will participate in
a special carnival, prepared
and staffed by teens and older
students. Afterward, Corrine
Stavish, noted storyteller,
will perform Jewish folktales
with audience participation.
J.P.I. also will co-sponsor the
Center's carnival.
