FRIDAY FEBRUARY 26, 1988

and husband John
McCloskey, with Fred and
Sandra (Sandy) Samson and
Robert (Bob) and Leslie
Golding, celebrated Chinese
New Year's Eve party for Year
of The Dragon at the
Szechuan Restaurant on Ford
Road in Canton ... Student
dancers from the Chinese
Cultural Institute began the
festivities with authentic
Kung Fu dances and a dragon
line dance.
The ten-course meal con-
sisted of . . . assorted ap-
petizers of shrimp, meat, fish
cakes, chicken and pickled
noodles with jelly fish,
sharkskin soup, Peking duck,
dragon and phoenix (a com-
plementary duo of spicy
chicken and mild lobster),
chopped chicken with pine
nuts and peas in lettuce,
orange steak, tangy jumbo
shrimps in shell, king crab
and broccoli, crispy fish with
sweet and sour sauce and dac-
quiri ice.
OKAY HAS been given .. .
and T.K.'s Dining and Spirits
sign will finally replace
Dimitri's of Southfield on
Southfield Rd. and Ten Mile
. . . Should be up there within
next three weeks.
YOU KNOW it's a class
operation when the
restaurant tosses a party to
celebrate the appointment of
a new general manager .. .
especially a lavish one.
This is what happened
recently at Bloomfield
Charley's on W. Maple off Or-
chard Lake Rd. when Ken
Walters, Dick Sikorsky and
their Charley's Restaurants
top guns feted G.M. David
Brueckner . . . Enough
delicious buffet food for two
more parties . . . and David
was a very happy honoree .. .
This, my friends, is the right
way to do things.
THE GLAMOR and ex-
citement of Las Vegas,
Hollywood and Broadway has
arrived in the Detroit metro

area with grand opening of
the Omni Star Performing
Arts Theatre . . . Located in
Livonia, a half-mile south of
1-96, corner of Farmington
and Plymouth Roads, Omni
Star Theatre, which opened
last night with Wayne
Newton, sold-out two weeks
ahead, is the former Mai Kai
Theater . . . extensively
remodeled and fitted with
state-of-the-art sound and
lighting equipment . . .
Future plans include bring-
ing in road shows, musical
theater productions and com-
edy concerts . . . along with
headliners.
Jerry Vale and Patti- Page
will appear on the heels of
Wayne Newton . . . both
vocalists having had an ex-
traordinary string of hits dur-
ing their careers . . . many of
which will be performed dur-
ing their engagement at the
Omni Star.
Miss Page, noted for her
warm and charming stage
presence, wil be featured for
the first half of the show .. .
Wearing her traditional
white gown, she'll sweep
Omni's patrons through time
with renditions of songs that
put her on the charts in the
'50s and '60s . . . accompanied
by the 21-piece Johnny
Trudell Orchestra and her
own pianist and conductor.

"The Silver Fox," Jerry Vale
takes over after intermission
. . . He is best known for
his romantic love songs .. .
musical expression that
ranges from gentle ballads
and Italian-American favor-
ites to the sounds of contem-
porary Broadway musical hits
and popular music.
This special evening with
Jerry Vale and Patti Page
opens Thursday and con-
tinues for five performances
through March 6.

Other Omni Star Theatre
bookings through May in-
clude . . . the McGuire Sisters
and Jack Jones, March 10-13
. . . Debbie Reynolds and long-
time film partner, Donald
O'Conner, March 17-20 .. .
Bobby Vinton, March 24-27
. . . The Temptations, April 21
through April 24 . . . Tom
Jones April 28-May 1.
All 1,400 seats at the new
Omni Star Theatre provide
an unobstructed view . . . and
the back row is only 100 feet
from the stage.
Tickets for all shows are
now on sale through the box
office or Ticket Master.

"SOCIAL SECURITY" at
the Birmingham Theatre on
Woodward thru March 20 .. .
is a modern comedy . . .
predictable but delightfully
entertaining.
