Student Body
Raps JAP Use
The University of Michigan
Student Assembly Jan. 26
passed a resolution condemn-
ing the use of the term "JAP"
(Jewish American Princess)
as discrimination against
Jews and women.
The resolution passed
unanimously by the
50-member body, according to
Sondra Ponico, who chairs the
MSA women's issues
committee.
Ponico, a U-M senior, said
that JAP-baiting and anti-
Semitism is a growing pro-
blem on the Ann Arbor cam-
pus, "especially with graffiti
in the library against Jews."
She said that Jewish
women from New York, like
herself, are immediately
labeled JAPs. "If you say
you're a Jewish woman,
you're put into this category
without being given a
chance."
Law Professor
