say: 'Do you want us to help
you?' I don't want this shame
to happen to us. It's the duty
of the State of Israel."
Ironically, only ten min-
utes' drive from Yad Vashem,
the Demjanjuk trial, which
has cost the State of Israel
millions of dollars, is focusing
world attention on the Holo-
caust, educating Israelis as it
does so. Whether or not the
State of Israel will be able to
continue its efforts to com-
memorate the Holocaust
while bringing those who
were a party to it to justice
will depend largely on how
the Israeli Government and
the Jewish People in the
Diaspora respond to the
urgent financial plight of Yad
Vashem. ❑

Paritskys
Promised Visas

New York (JTA) — Former
prisoner of conscience Dr.
Alexander Paritsky of
Kharkov, the Ukraine, his
wife Polina and their
daughter Anna were Tuesday
promised an exit visa to Israel
by local authorities, the Cin-
cinnati Council for Soviet
Jews and the Student Strug-
gle for Soviet Jewry reported.
Paritsky had sought to
emigrate for 11 years, but had
been refused becaue he
allegedly possessed state
secrets due to his work on the
development of ultrasonic in-
struments for the measure-
ment of distances between
atomic particles.
He was sent to a Siberian
labor camp from 1981-1984,
and was threatened by of-
ficials last June that he would
be denied emigration until
1995.

Geneva (JTA) — The ex-
treme right-wing National
Action Party has lost the libel
suits it brought against two
Swiss newspapers that de-
nounced it for promoting
racist ideas similar to those of
the Nazis.
A Geneva court ruled that
the party was not slandered
and ordered it to pay 90,000
Swiss francs (approximately
$66,000) to cover the cost of
the trials, in addition to legal
fees incurred by the defen-
dants, the newspapers Woz
and Schaffhauser AZ.
According to the Swiss
Wochenzeitung, the National
Action Party already has a
debt of 150,000 Swiss francs
($110,000).
