Jewish Music
Concert Focus

Beth Israel Congregation of
Ann Arbor announces a con-
cert, "Jewish Music in the
Classical Repertoire," to be
performed by Amy Shevrin,
violinist, and Michele Cooker,
pianist, on Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. in
the synagogue sanctuary.
The program will consist of
works by contemporary
Israeli composers as well as
Ernest Bloch's First Violin
Sonata. A similar concert,
featuring different works on
the theme, "Jewish Music in
the Classical Repertoire," was
presented by the duo at the
Kerrytown Concert House in
1986.
Shevrin received an M.A.
degree from Eastman School
of Music and B.A. degree from
Barnard College. She is cur-
rently a member of the Toledo
Symphony Orchestra and is a
performer and teacher in Ann
Arbor. Cooker, an established
recitalist, has performed with
the internationally known
musicians Camilla Wicks and
Jeffrey Solov. Shevrin and
Cooker have performed
together for more than three
years.
A reception will follow the
concert. Tickets are available
at the Beth Israel office and
at the door. For information,
call the synagogue, 665-9897.
